Lockish Alternative for Mac (2026)

Lockish, from Appish, is a $9.99 one-time Touch ID app locker for Mac. It puts a lock screen over a protected app’s window, re-locks after an idle timeout you set per app, and needs Touch ID to quit. There is no account and no subscription. For a simple lock it is a fair deal.

Three things make people look further:

Your Mac password opens it. Lockish says it plainly: use Touch ID, or your Mac password on Macs without it. Anyone who knows your login can open every locked app.
It only locks windows. Nothing is encrypted and nothing is hidden. The app and its data are untouched on disk. A locked window is a locked window.
No folders or files. Lockish can lock Finder windows, but it cannot lock a folder or a file itself, and failed-attempt logging is still on its roadmap.
