Privacy Policy

Last updated June 23, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what information Cloak handles and how we treat it. Cloak is built so that your protected data stays on your Mac. We have tried to write this in plain English so you can actually read it.

1. Who we are

Cloak is a product of RKM Labs Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 16685514), registered office Office 14246, 182-184 High Street North, East Ham, London, E6 2JA, United Kingdom. In this policy "we", "us", and "our" mean RKM Labs Ltd.

2. The short version

Cloak is a native macOS app that runs on your Mac. It has no account system and no analytics. The only time the app talks to a server is when you activate or recover a paid license. Everything else, including locking, hiding, and encrypting your data, happens entirely on your machine. We handle personal information in two places only: when you buy a license, which is handled by our payment processor, and when you activate a license, which sends your license key and a device identifier to our license server so we can enforce the per-license Mac limit.

3. What the app does on your Mac

When you lock, hide, or encrypt an app or folder, everything happens locally. Your encryption keys and secrets are stored in the macOS Keychain and released by Touch ID or your password. We never see them and they never leave your device.

Specifically, the Cloak app:

  • Does not create an account or ask you to sign in.
  • Does not send your files, file names, app names, or usage data to us or anyone else.
  • Does not include third-party trackers, advertising SDKs, or analytics.
  • Makes only one kind of network call, license activation. Locking, hiding, and encrypting your data never require the network and work fully offline.

4. Information we process when you buy

To sell you a license we use a third-party payment processor (Stripe). When you purchase Cloak, Stripe processes your payment details. We never receive or store your full card number. From the transaction we receive limited information needed to deliver and support your license, such as:

  • Your email address (to send your license key and receipt).
  • The product and tier you purchased, and the amount and date.
  • A payment reference and the country used for tax purposes.

Stripe processes this data under its own privacy policy. See stripe.com/privacy.

5. License activation and the per-license Mac limit

When you activate a paid license, the app makes one network call to our license server at api.trycloak.app. This call sends your license key and a device identifier (a stable hardware ID for your Mac) so we can check that the license is valid and count how many Macs are using it. We store that device identifier so we can enforce the limit on how many Macs a single license can be activated on.

This happens only during license activation and recovery. It does not happen during normal use, and it never includes your files, file names, or the contents of anything you have protected. The app may also check for new versions so it can offer you updates; where that happens the request is limited to the minimum needed, such as a version number.

6. How we use information

We use the limited purchase information described above only to:

  • Deliver your license key and receipt.
  • Provide customer support and process refunds.
  • Meet legal, tax, and accounting obligations.

We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for advertising.

7. Data retention

We keep purchase and license records for as long as needed to support your license and to comply with our legal and tax obligations. You can ask us to delete information that we are not legally required to keep by contacting us.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about your purchase, or to object to certain processing. To make a request, email [email protected] and we will respond within a reasonable time.

9. Children

Cloak is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.

10. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. Material changes will be reflected on this page before they take effect.
