Open the disk image from your download link and drag Cloak into Applications. Open it once from there. Cloak lives in the menu bar, not the Dock.

Open Cloak, paste the license key from your email when it asks, and press Activate. Your key works on the number of Macs you bought it for.

macOS 13 or newer, any Apple silicon or Intel Mac. Touch ID is optional. Without it you unlock with your Cloak password.

Check Spam or Junk for "Your Cloak license" from [email protected]. On Gmail also check Promotions. Still nothing? Email [email protected] from the address you bought with and we resend it.

Unhide your apps and unlock your folders on the old Mac first, so they are normal files again. Install Cloak on the new Mac and activate with the same key.

On the unlock screen press "Forgot? Use recovery key" and enter the key you saved at setup. Once in, set a new password in Settings. If Touch ID is on, your fingerprint still works as normal.

Then that setup cannot be opened, on purpose. Nothing is stored anywhere but your Mac, so nobody, including us, can get in. Reset Cloak and set up fresh. Anything you hid or encrypted stays encrypted on disk.

Cloak only shows Touch ID when your Mac has a reader and it is turned on in Settings. On a closed laptop or an external keyboard, use your Cloak password.

Go to Settings and turn off "Let my Mac password unlock Cloak". From then on only Touch ID or your Cloak password gets in. Cloak asks you to set a Cloak password first if you have none.

Deleting the app does not open anything you hid or encrypted. Those stay encrypted on disk. Locked apps depend on Cloak running, so for things that truly matter, hide the app or lock the folder.

Turn them on in Settings › Protection. Cloak asks for camera access once. Every wrong password or wrong finger takes one photo into Pictures › Cloak Intruders, and Cloak tells you next time you open it.

Open Cloak from your Applications folder, or press your reopen shortcut (Option, Command and C by default). The window comes up. Turn the icon back on in Settings.

Something other than Cloak changed or removed its settings file, usually a cleaning tool. Press Try again first. If it keeps happening, reset Cloak, set up again, and use your recovery key to bring hidden apps and locked folders back.

Cloak checks once a day and installs updates on its own. To check now, click the Cloak icon in the menu bar and choose Check for Updates. Updates are free for life.
